What is Soundbath healing?

Meagan Thomas, MSL, BSN, RN, HNB-BC

Sound healing is one of the oldest energy balancing techniques used and is becoming more popular in our modern society. In sound healing, a variety of instruments may be used although the singing bowl is one of the most common.

There are many materials a bowl can be made of, brass and crystal are the main elements you will find. Although they look and sound quite different, the effect on the body is the same.

All living and non-living things have a vibrational frequency. Humans are no exception. When vibrations are transmitted in our space, they pass through every cell of the body. This causes a gentle, massage-like connection in our tissues resulting in relaxation. Certain vibrational frequencies can have different effects on our bodies and heal in different ways.

Sound healing, or sound bath healing, brings purposeful vibrational frequencies into your immediate space. These vibrations move through your body and your mind allowing your brain waves to slow down and enter a restorative state.

The vibrational frequency of the different-sized singing bowls are designed to narrow in on your seven main chakras. Your chakras are wheels or energy points in your body. You can visualize them as spinning circles of energy that are associated with organs, emotions and your overall health and wellbeing.

In this restorative state, there are many benefits. Deep relaxation is the most widely experienced benefit. Sound has no language but does have intent. When the intent is positive and the environment is safe, sacred, and healing, you will experience this state of deep relaxation.

Sound therapy can be beneficial in releasing energy blockages in your body, mind, and spirit. The release can manifest as a feeling or emotion as the vibrations help you to release and open your energy channels.

Research has proven that sound therapy can reduce high blood pressure, reduce symptoms of chronic pain and improve your quality of sleep. As a result, sound healing can enhance your overall well-being.

As you discover new ways for self-care and journey towards wellness, you may want to give sound bath healing a try.
